Horse Trials, Competitions and Schooling at Rackham.
We are very pleased to announce that unaffiliated horse trials and competitions will be taking place at Rackham in 2022, with a horse trials likely to take place on 2nd/3rd July. Please keep an eye on our website for further information about events and the opening of the course for schooling, which we hope will be in April or May.
I confirm that there will be no British Eventing (BE) Horse Trials at Rackham in 2022 and, therefore, it seems, very limited grass roots affiliated BE eventing in West Sussex. This has been a difficult decision to make, but it is solely due to the alteration in its abandonment policy by BE. By way of explanation, Rackham is a green field site which means the whole event is built from scratch, the costs of which are met by the anticipated entry fees. In the new regime, if we had to abandon for any reason (fire, flood or, more pertinently, pestilence) the lack of abandonment insurance would mean that we would be liable for any refunds of entry fees to which competitors would be entitled under the rules, whilst having already incurred the build-up costs. Although we have very much enjoyed running Rackham since 2009 this is a financial risk we are not prepared to take.
We have over the years enjoyed the support of riders and owners, our team and our volunteers, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning in 2009, and all of whom we cannot thank enough.
Many thanks to all of you who have supported us throughout, we very much hope you will continue to do so and look forward to seeing you at Rackham later this year.
